20 Minutes Per Day

Just a reminder: 

It is expected that students read for 20 minutes every night as part of their fifth grade homework.

Science Inquiry

Ask your student why we guessed what was in six different wrapped boxes to kick-off our Chemistry Unit? This exploration was a big hit and students asked if we could do it again- for fun!

Zones of Regulation

Ms. Clifford, our school counselor, came in to our class to talk with us about the Zones of Regulation. Students learned which feelings correlate to the colored zones. Then students brainstormed strategies to help them get back into the green zone. Students now have a helpful strategy list for their personal toolbox.

Welcome Back

Hello Fifth Graders,

Summer is winding down and I have been enjoying being outside as much as possible. On Monday I went on a sunset cruise on the Gundalow in Portsmouth. It was very lovely and I learned about local history while on the boat. 

I look forward to sharing summer highlights together with everyone next week.   

I am including the class supply list below. It is not expected that you have everything on the first day of school. If you have it from last year or at your house, then bring that in, you don't need to buy it again.

I am very excited to see all of you on Monday!

A "Hands On" Experiment

Before the cold and flu season started, we did a little experiment. I washed my hands and touched the 'Clean Hands' piece of bread and put it in the bag. The students passed around the 'Classroom Hands' slice and then placed it in the bag. The bags were then placed in the closet and we waited. And waited some more ...(because the bread had preservatives in it, this took a bit longer than we all thought). I think the results speak for themselves and really show the importance of proper hand washing with soap and warm water.

The Power of Yet

The Power of Yet... This is something we have talked about since the beginning of the year: Growth Mindset! Students will be creating goals for the spring this week and we will be updating our bulletin board shortly. Ask you child what the "Power of Yet" means to them.

Museum of Science Assembly

In February, students enjoyed a presentation from the Museum of Science. Ethan was selected to see if the metal rod was a good conductor- I think Ms. Estle's face tells that it is! This was a good introduction into our new science unit we have just started- Magnets!
